Testing for the High School Equivalency Diploma

Who can take the test?

  • Anyone living in Indiana for a minimum of 30 days before taking the test.

  • Those who have not already earned a diploma from an accredited high school in the United States.

  • Students who are at least 16 years of age with an exit form.

 

How much does the test cost?

  • Testing costs are $146 or less, which includes all of the tests, test scoring, transcripts and diploma.

  • Scholarship opportunities are available for those who qualify.

What is the HSED Test like?

  • The High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) in Indiana is given by passing all part of the GED or HiSet tests. River Valley Resources can prepare you for either the GED HiSet test.

  • There are 5 sub-tests, and they may be taken one at a time.

  • Each subject area has different time limits:

    • Math - 90 min., 50 questions 

    • Social Studies - 70 min., 50 questions

    • Science - 80 min., 50 questions

    • Reading - 65 min., 40 questions

    • Writing -120 min., 51 questions

  • You may retake sub-tests 2 additional times without a waiting period.

  • If you pass one subject then you do not have to retake that test again.

There are testing centers all over the state, and your teacher will help you find the center closest to you.

How do I sign up?

Your instructor will walk you through the on-line registration process. 

You may call the testing center to register as well. You must have an Indiana ID or passport.
